James English School

Support and Benefits

James English School offers a one-year contract, although we prefer teachers to think in terms of an initial two-year commitment. It is an expensive endeavour to move to a new country and teachers who remain with us for at least two years do much better financially.

Salary:
First year: (without teacher training or TEFL Certificate) 250,000 yen/month
First year: (with teacher training or TEFL Certificate) 260,000 yen/month

If you find after the first year that this may be a career option and we agree, then your contract is renewed and salary is increased 10,000/month over the next four years (Capping at 290,000 yen). Teachers without training are also encouraged to obtain a TEFL Certificate after joining James and your salary category will change upon completion of a course.

Benefits:
First year teachers receive all national holidays, a week off in August and 5 days off during Christmas, as well as 5 paid days off, at your discretion. Discretionary vacation days increase in subsequent years.

Getting Settled:
New teachers arriving from overseas are assisted in finding housing and setting up bank accounts, utility services and health insurance. We also offer an insurance program that pays a substantial part of your salary if you are injured during working hours.

Often new teachers are able to take over the existing apartment and household package of the person they are replacing. This is MUCH cheaper and should be considered the ONLY option if it is available at your new posting.

New teachers should plan to have at least 100,000 yen upon arrival for setting up costs, transportation and living costs until the first payday. James English School does offer financial support (loans) for teachers we have interviewed and hired, so do not let your financial situation affect your decision to apply for a position with us.

Professional Support:
Many of our new employees are not career teachers; while others do have teaching experience. Either way, this is a new culture, new approach and new situation!

We offer extensive training and support for our new teachers, while at the same time giving you the freedom to create your own niche. We have substantial resources in each office, although any new material a teacher brings from home (books, games, posters) are always appreciated by your new co-workers and students.
